I enjoy teaching short, one-day masterclasses with students of all levels, especially focusing on baroque repertoire as well as upon baroque ornamentational methods and techniques. I enjoy venturing forward into the Romantic and Modern eras, as well as back into the Renaissance.I also offer more structured, multi-day mastercourses, including the yearly Lute Song Mastercourse each August in Schwäbisch Gmünd. These longer courses usually involve working on a series of arias and ensembles with the course participants, with twin focuses upon interpretation and upon ornamentation, culminating in a final concert of these works. I try to perform with my students as often as is practicable. In masterclasses, unless specifically agreed to by both the student and their primary teacher, I avoid technical corrections, as I believe that is a matter better suited to the teacher-student discourse, although if I notice something I believe I can address quickly, cogently, and appropriately, I will do so. My classes are, however, more about the style, the history, the philosophy and the art of the singer.
If you are interested in hosting either a short masterclass, a longer master course, or joining us in Gmünd next summer, please feel free to contact me.
